Bayern fear Chelsea money
by Graeme Bailey - created on 6 Feb 2005
Bayern Munich have admitted they cannot compete with Roman Abramovich's finances, after their star midfield Michael Ballack was linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
Ballack is one of a number of big-names reported to be under consideration of Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho.
The 28-year-old German international has just 18 months left on his current deal and Bayern are reportedly struggling to offer him the financial terms he wants.
"It goes without saying that we want to keep Michael in Munich and will hold talks with him," Bayern general manager Uli Hoeness told German television station Premiere.
"I can imagine that his current contract can be improved but Mr Abramovich seems to be printing money at home and there is nothing you can do to combat that."
Ballack has admitted hat he wants to try a new experience after spending his whole career in Die Bundesliga.
"My contract expires in a year and a half so we will see what happens," said Ballack.
"Moving abroad does appeal to me as I can discover something new.
