Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has hinted he is ready to offer Dietmar Hamann a new deal at Anfield.
The German international's current deal expires in the summer and reports have suggested he could leave at the season's end.
Hamann was strongly linked with a move away from Merseyside last summer and he has been continually linked with a return to his native Germany.
Benitez has now admitted he is keen to keep the defensive midfielder and is ready to sit down with him to discuss a new deal.
"I know that Hamann wants to play in Liverpool in the future," said Benitez.
"For us, it is important to have two or three possibilities for each position.
"With Steven Gerrard, Xabi Alonso and Hamann, we have three players that can keep hold of the ball."
Meanwhile, Benitez has revealed he is at Anfield for the considerable future.
Benitez has settled well into life in England since arriving from Valencia in the summer and he admitted he would like to stay at Anfield for 15 years if possible.
The Spaniard conceded that the decision to stay or not could come down to his wife Montserrat.
"She's (Montserrat) coming round to the idea we're going to stay here fifteen years. She's confident in my ability and the possibilities I have at Liverpool. She knows I have to give this adventure a lot of time," Benitez said.
"What has surprised me more than anything at Liverpool is the respect they have for the manager. We are safe in the knowledge that everyone in the club supports us and that's important."
Da kann der Didi dann seine Karriere in England beenden. Ob er da aber weiterhin einen Stammplatz haben wird, bleibt fraglich.
