Dont know much about history...
Not for the first time in the younger history of georgian football suspicions came up about a fixed game with georigan participation. Kolkheti Poti is suspected to have "sold" their Intertoto game earlier this year. Last years champions WIT lost completely unexpected 3-0 to HB Torshavn from the Faroer Islands after winning 5-0 in Tbilisi (georgiansoccer.com reported). In the next round WIT lost 11-2 (2-8 in Tbilisi) on aggregate to Wisla Krakow.
In other sports georgian sportsmen have also made some bad public to their names. The most famous active georgian tennis player Irakli Labadze for example was fined for code violation in March.
Dinamo would never cheat on us...
The news appeared on our forum and nobody really seemed to notice. Ika, an other "veteran" on our forum, who is living in Australia (!?!), reported that the word is spread, about Dinamo fixing the game. Of course nobody wanted to believe that, but the reality turned out to be exactly like he described it.
Suspicious minds
Ika told us, before the game started, that many bookmakers stopped accepting bets on this game. The suspicion was, that Dinamo would win the first half, but loose after the final whistle. Somewhere else was mentioned, that for 1 US$ bet on this order of events, one would get 30US$ back. Quite a good deal if you ask me. Furthermore some serious internet betting agencies like Eurobet, Sportingbet, Betinternet and some others stopped accepting bets on this game.
On the Pitch
Football is a game which is still played on the pitch though. Some of our users who have once again met to discuss Dinamos performance live were happy to celebrate Dinamos first goal on this stage of competition. Kakaladze marked the 0-1 in the 38. minute of the game. The score remained the same until the half-time whistle. Dinamo won the first half. Coincident?
What happened after the first half you will ask? Just read the goal statistics:
58. Mantzios - 1-1
59. Akhalaia - 1-2
67. Mantzios - 2-2
77. Mantsios - 3-2
90+2. Breska - 4-2
90+3. Marcora - 5-2
Dinamo lost the game after winning the first half. Coincidents?
Coincidents
Of course, nothing can be proved by us, hobby journalists. There are some people though, who are paied to investigate such incidents. We all can only hope that Dinamo lost because the Greek side was so much better in the second half of the game.
It would be interesting to follow up georgian media. Which is their point of view? Do they believe in coincidences?
And we should hope that some kind of UEFA-Investigation will take place to proove that Dinamo (our Dinamo Tbilisi, our pride, our Cup Winners Cup winner 1981) is a seriously managed club with international ambitions. For the sake of the game, for the sake of the fans, for the sake of georgian soccer.
